  SFPA's NALA CP REVIEW & STUDY COURSE AT FIU's 8th STREET CAMPUS is an 18-hour prep review for the NALA CP exam.  The Review covers all five sections of the exam.  In addition, the Review begins with an orientation to answer any questions you may have regarding the exam (e.g., eligibility, application, etc..).  Also, the Review ends with a mock exam -- an abridged version to assist you ascertain your strengths and weaknesses, which will help you prepare for the actual exam.  All classes are held on Saturdays for a nine-week period.  Please see schedule attached below.

  This is a review course.  Students should expect to read the chapters and perform self-tests before class.  Students should start reading chapters 1 and 3 as soon as they receive the required textbook.  More information about the textbook is listed below.

   

  SCHEDULE:

  REQUIRED TEXTBOOK:

  CP Review Manual, 4th Edition (blue) by Virginia Koerselman Newman.  

  You must procure your own copy of the textbook; it may be purchased directly from NALA for $170 at http://www.nala.org/publ.aspx.  You should order the book as soon as possible to ensure delivery before orientation class.

   

  RECOMMENDED BOOKS:

  You may purchase (but not required) the following two books as study aids.

  Certified Paralegal - Mock Examination and Study Guide, 5th edition.  It is available from NALA for $45.

  The Elements of Style by Strunk and White.  This book is sold in many places and is available for free online.  Any edition after 1990 is acceptable.  Used copy is fine.

  APPLYING FOR NALA CP EXAM:

  The NFPA-sponsored PCC Exam (Paralegal CORE Competency). Upon successful completion of the exam, you earn the CRP credential.  This review by SFPA is organized to help students prepare and study for the PCC Exam.  After the review, you will register directly with NFPA to take the exam. 

  This is a 21-hour prep review, with all classes held on Saturdays at FIU's Tamiami Campus.  The review begins with an orientation to answer any questions you may have regarding the exam (e.g., eligibility, application, etc..).  The mock exam on the last day provides the students with a further measure of confidence by simulating the testing environment.  

  Some classes will be combined and taught alongside NALA CP courses.

  APPLYING FOR NFPA PCC EXAM:
  

  Application with NFPA for the exam should be arranged after the completion of the study course, as you will only have a 90 day window to take the exam once your application has been approved.  Application is handled separately by the applicant directly with NFPA. Testing fees are included in the cost of the application, and are not a separate fee, but you must schedule directly with the Prometric Testing Centers once you have your confirmation to test from NFPA. Instructions for testing center registration will be provided with the confirmation to test from NFPA.
