Member Types


Active 

1) Graduation from or completion of a paralegal training program, institutionally accredited and/or ABA-approved, which shall be evidenced by either an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree or by a Certificate indicating completion of at least fifteen 3-credit hour courses (a 3 credit-hour course shall be determined to include 30 classroom hours);

2) Any individual who has earned and maintained one of the following designations:
a) CP or CLA (Certified Paralegal or Certified Legal Assistant) as administered by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. or,
b) CRP (Core Registered Paralegal) as administered by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA) or,
c) RP (Registered Paralegal) as administered by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA);

3) A bachelor's degree in any field plus three (3) years experience as a paralegal, who attorney-employer attests that such person is qualified as a paralegal;

4) Five years employment as a paralegal, whose attorney-employer attests that such person is a qualified paralegal;
 
5) Any provisional member who has maintained continuous membership with SFPA for one (1) year and continuous employment as a paralegal, evidenced by attorney-employer attestation for three (3) years; or

(6) Any individual who registered as a Florida Registered Paralegal with The Florida Bar.

Provisional

Applicant must complete a SFPA Board-approved non-accredited paralegal training program at a university, college, or junior college which shall be evidenced by a Certificate indicating completion of at least ten (10) 3-credit hour courses or equivalent.

 Student

Those persons who are enrolled in a training program for a paralegal at a university, college, junior college or other approved school, are eligible for student membership, provided, however, that all such schools and curricula shall be subject to approval of SFPA. All such students shall be required to take at least one course per semester until graduation, evidenced by a letter from the Registrar reflecting continuous enrollment. 

Associate

Those members of any bar association or any educational field endorsing and promoting the paralegal profession. 

Sustaining

Those organizations which support the principles of SFPA through their endorsement and monetary contributions, subject to SFPA Board approval.
